51±¾É«sends second payment to people who paid for student debt relief

The 51±¾É«is sending a second round of payments to borrowers who paid Student Advocates and Equitable Acceptance Corporation for student debt relief.

According to the FTC's lawsuit, these companies charged illegal upfront fees and falsely promised to help borrowers wipe out their student loan debt or cut their monthly payments. The companies did not use the money they collected to pay down student loan balances.

The 51±¾É«first sent payments in August 2022, which resulted in more than $671,000 in refunds. Because there is still money in the fund, the 51±¾É«is sending a second round of payments totaling over $107,000 to 5,015 borrowers who accepted their first payment and paid Student Advocates more than $1,716.
